Moments Around Mill Road

Poster depicting a silhouette of Mill Road, and information about the event.

Perhaps I should have mentioned earlier, but I have been rather busy. Last fortnight, I had mostly been organising a little exhibit of work from my fellow illustrators from the first six week project on Mill Road. As I have mentioned previously, we were inserted in to one of the hundred or so small businesses down this vibrant street to make visual records of what goes on.

The exhibit is a selection of sketches and studies alongside puppets we made of the characters we found. After laborious sessions choosing/copying/cropping/framing work we eventually had everything ready for the café. We hung up two days before the opening and the evening of Friday 19th opened with wine and nibbles to the public.

It was an awesome turn out, mostly students, but all that cared from Mill Road turned up, which is nice; and warming, perhaps. Second and third year illustrators popped in, keeping an eye on our eagerness to exhibit(!) but it was really nice of them to show their support.

Thanks go to Pam, basically, without whom the show could not have even materialised…technically she forced the project on the reps, but what a great experience and exciting opportunity. Now our work is out there in Cambridge, and we’ve only been here for 8 weeks!

So check it out, at the Black Cat Café, until the 6th December (which means everybody at the Mill Road Winter Fair will see it too!), and buy a coffee, because they do the best here, that I have found, so far.
