Grantchester

Chinagraph sketch of some gentlemen scoffing scones under a tree in The Orchard of Grantchester, Cambridge

Went to Grantchester today, mostly to meet up with my fellow yeargroup Illustrators at The Orchard, and partly to continue procrastinating. From my Facebook news feed, it would seem apparent that this is time of year when students are doing everything to avoid their essay writing. It’s not that I don’t want to write it, I’m just worried I’m not going to do my own question justice.

Fortunately I didn’t have that timid apprehension when I drew this today. Trying to get my tonal studies down, and with a bit of extensive mark-making in the mix, I’m quite happy with the result. Tends to be the way though, something that starts as a sketch soon becomes a piece I’d wished I’d thought more about the composition. Could have sold that for some pennies towards the looming prospect of a large deposit.

After The Orchard I headed to The Green Man to eat Roast Beef with Emily. Good pub, and from an overheard conversation, we picked the most reasonable venue we could; but you can always tell you’re in a reasonable venue when they play a bit of jazz in the background anyway, right?
